Children’s Choirs

Mary Queen of Peace is blessed to have a thriving and high quality children’s music program. With two vocal groups of treble voices, these choirs are open to girls and boys in the parish from 2nd through 8th grades. Each choir rehearses after school one day each week during the academic year. No musical experience is necessary, but each student will complete a placement interview with the music director to determine which ensemble will best suit them as they develop as musicians.

The Allegro Choir

The Allegro Choir is the primary musical ensemble for the School, leading music for many All-School Masses, sacramental liturgies such as Confirmation and First Communion, as well as for Saturday Parish Masses about once each month. The choir also sings for parish Masses on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. As a member of Pueri Cantores, an organization of Roman Catholic children’s choirs, this ensemble has traveled across the region to participate in festivals and Masses including performances at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. Generally, the members of the Allegro choir have previous experience in the MQP children’s music program for at least one year.

The Adagio Choir

The Adagio Choir is the point of entry for the majority of MQP’s young singers. This choir sings for Saturday Parish Masses, and occasional special liturgies and school Masses. This choir focuses on singing technique, basic musicianship and ensemble skills, as well as quality foundational music that is challenging and fun to sing.

Youth Handbell Choir

The Youth Handbell choir is a group of dedicated students who study and learn the art of ringing handbells, as well as playing for occasional School and Parish liturgies through the year. This group is open to students in the 4th grade and above, and spends time focusing on ensemble skills, music reading skills, as well as music performance.
