Pope Francis has declared 2021 a Year in Honor of St. Joseph and invited Catholics to discover the foster father of Jesus as a saint for our times. In response to the Holy Father’s invitation, Mary Queen will host a variety of opportunities throughout the year. Please see below for the latest prayer opportunity.
St. Joseph, pray for us!
In response to the Holy Father’s invitation, Mary
Queen of Peace will have a Day of Prayer and
Reflection on St. Joseph on Saturday, March 20,
from 9:00am until 11:30 am in Church, and all
our parish family is invited to attend. Father John
will give a few reflections about St. Joseph, we will
have common prayer and time for private prayer,
Mass to honor St. Joseph, and a few surprises.
The morning will be in person, in Church, with masks
required and social distancing in place. It will not be
livestreamed, but Father John's reflections
will be recorded and available on our website later.
In order to plan for the day, if you would like to attend,
RSVP to the Parish office by calling the rectory or by
In celebration of this year of remembrance of Joseph, Mary Queen of Peace will be offering an opportunity for all to participate in a Consecration to St. Joseph. The preparation for the consecration happens over a 33 day period, starting on March 30th and ending on May First, the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. There would be six group gatherings during that time in the Church with the final session being the actual Consecration itself following the 5:00 Mass on May 1.
Why would I consecrate myself to St. Joseph?
When we consecrate ourselves to St. Joseph, we acknowledge Joseph as our Spiritual Father in the same way that Mary is our Spiritual Mother. And both Joseph and Mary point us towards Jesus. From the beginning the Church has recognized the power of the Saints to take our prayers directly to God in whose presence they stand. At every Mass we call upon the Saints to pray for us.
How does this work?
You need to purchase the book Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of our Spiritual Father by Father Donald Calloway, MIC, and follow along in the book as each day brings us closer to St. Joseph through an examination of his life and through prayer. The book is available at Catholic Supply, St. Pauline Bookstore, Amazon, and other outlets.
Can I make a consecration to St. Joseph if I have already consecrated myself to Mary?
The short answer is yes. Consecrating yourself to Joseph in addition to Mary only strengthens our relationship with God, the Son.
When will the Group Meetings be held?
Our meetings will begin at 7 pm in the church and will include prayer, reflection and discussion. You may come for as many or as few meetings as you would like.
Here’s the schedule:
Tuesday, March 30th
Wednesday, April 7th
Monday, April 12th
Wednesday, April 21st
Monday, April 26th
Our last meeting will be Saturday, May 1st at 6 pm, following the 5 pm Mass , at which time the consecration will be made.
Take this opportunity to learn more about the man who helped raise our Lord on earth, and through him grow closer to Christ. St. Joseph, pray for us!
