Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration
Our parish celebrated another important feast day for our Blessed Mother, honoring the apparition of Mary to St. Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531 by some extra Spanish prayers and a Spanish hymn at our 11am Mass on December 14, 2015. Fellowship including some Mexican treats followed in the Cafeteria. By a special miracle Mary's image, dressed in the local style, was preserved on Juan Diego’s cloak, and is still preserved intact nearly 500 years later in the great basilica and shrine on the outskirts of Mexico City. Our Lady of Guadalupe is now venerated in the Catholic Church as the Patroness of the Americas and very importantly as the Protectress of the Unborn
Reception for Deacon Joe Weintge
On June 8th, the Feast of Pentecost, we celebrated the ordination of our own parish member, Mr. Joseph Wientge, as a permanent deacon by Archbishop Carlson. All of us at MQP are proud of Deacon Joe and his five years of diligent study in preparation for receiving the first “order” in the Sacrament of Holy Orders. We also congratulate Deacon Joe’s wife, Karen, for being patient and supportive of her husband’s new ministry of service to God’s People in the Church.
Choral Concert March 2014
March 1st marked a big moment for our music ministry - we held our first choral concert, showcasing our two Children’s Choirs, Adult Handbell Choir and the Chorale, accompanied by an excellent orchestra. The concert embodied the mission of bringing people closer to God through the beauty of music and sharing the love of Jesus through our community. Friends of Music at MQP helped make this possible by providing resources to do “Something Beautiful for God.”
Progressive Dinner 2014
Parishioners enjoyed a "Magical Mystery Night" on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Participants found out which cocktail party they would attend after 5:00PM Mass. Upon arriving at the gym for dinner, guests were again "surprised" when they were randomly assigned a table number. It was a great chance for fellowship with friends both old and new!
Advent by Candlelight 2013
Over 120 parish women attended an evening of celebration, sharing, and preparing during the season of Advent at our second Women's League Advent by Candlelight on Sunday, December 1st. Fr. Tom Molini presented a beautiful Advent reflection accompanied by a wonderful musical ensemble. Food, friends, fellowship and music were enjoyed by all.
On Thursday, November 21st, Bishop Edward Rice confirmed 85 Candidates for Confirmation from our MQP School and our MQP Parish School of Religion, including a number of students from other private Catholic schools. They diligently and prayerfully prepared since this time last year for the celebration of their third and final Sacrament of Initiation in which they were prayed over and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
Father Craig's Farewell
A Sad Farewell at MQP....on June 10th we sent our beloved Associate Pastor, Father Craig Holway off with our loving blessings to his new parish, St. Joseph’s in Cottleville in St. Charles County. Please pray for Father Craig as he transfers to this mega-parish of over 5,000 families (MQP has 1,350)!
Women's League Breakfast with Santa
Many children and parents spent a wonderful morning with Santa and Mrs. Claus on December 8th.
They enjoyed a hot breakfast, a special performance of Christmas carols sung by our own children's choir, Gingerbread house making, story time with Mrs. Claus, a candy cane walk, a coloring station, and a traditional photo with Santa!
Lenten Project 2012
Isn't it exciting to know that we at Mary Queen of Peace have built a dental clinic for the poor in St. Jean de Sud parish in rural Haiti? Dr. Steve Fleischut, his wife Tammy, and fellow parishioner Heather O'Keefe visited the new clinic during a February mission trip. Read more about the project and view photos taken at the Dedication Ceremony during the trip. The new dental clinic donated by Mary Queen of Peace, is a concrete example that a better world is possible. Thanks to all who donated and to the community of MQP for the compassionate display of generosity.
90th Anniversary & Bratfest
We celebrated 90 years of community and worship with a special Mass and our annual Bratfest on Sunday, September 25, 2011. The church looked beautiful and the Festival Choir sounded amazing! And, a few of our former parish priests enjoyed returning to MQP. Be sure to read The Early Years: 1922-1956 compiled by parishioner Susan Grigsby for some interesting history of the first 90 years.
